Revegetation and Biodiversity
The BBLAP Committee actively supports landowners, community groups and schools who wish to undertake revegetation activities.
Historically, financial incentives were offered to landowners as part of a number of different revegetation incentive schemes. Due to a cessation of funding for this program across the Riverland, BBLAP now offers tubestock and tree guards free of charge to those people who wish to undertake a revegetation project. As part of this offer, landowners are expected to ensure the plants are irrigated for the first year or two, undertake site preparation and weed control, and allow BBLAP to undertake occasional monitoring (photos) to assess the success of the project.
At this stage we are only propagating a small number (around 1500 to 2000) plants per year, so landowners and community groups are asked to contact us around 6-9 months ahead of when they wish to plant so we can prioritise project sites (where required) and more importantly ensure we are propagating the correct species for that site.
Most of the propagation is undertaken by students at Glossop High School middle campus, tho we would also like to establish a small community group to set up a second propagation site somewhere in the Berri Barmera area. If you are interested in being involved in this or have a suitable site to establish a small nursery (only need about 20 x 20m and available water) we would love to hear from you.
